Day of the Amsterdam Student

On the 6th of June 2015 the ASVA Student Union, in cooperation with other students organisations, will organise the Day of the Amsterdam Student (DAS). On this day ASVA aims to bridge the gap between students and other citizens of Amsterdam. Visitors of the Day of the Amsterdam Student will be able to take a glimpse into the life of the ‘Amsterdam student’. This will promote the social cohesion in Amsterdam and offer a new and exciting image of Amsterdam student life.

With over 110.000 students, Amsterdam is in absolute numbers the biggest student city of the Netherlands. All these students contribute to the city of Amsterdam in different ways. Yet the major part of student life takes place within the walls of the universities, sorority houses and other student associations. In spite of the fact that these student activities are often invisible to the other citizens of Amsterdam, they enable a broadening of the cultural sector and make a great contribution to the social cohesion of the city in many community or charity projects.

The ‘student life’ should be celebrated with the whole of Amsterdam. For this reason the ASVA student union will organise the Day of the Amsterdam Student (DAS), a day in which the citizens of Amsterdam can take a glimpse into the life of the ‘Amsterdam student’. Sorority houses will open their doors for the public, chemistry students will show chemistry experiments to children, the student orchestra will give a free concert and several lectures will be given by enthusiastic lecturers and students.

On the Day of the Amsterdam Student, ASVA aims to bridge the gap between students and other citizens of Amsterdam by bringing these two groups in contact. This day is a great opportunity for alumni to experience Amsterdam student life anno 2015 and also lets future students have a taste of studying in Amsterdam. On the Day of the Amsterdam Student we will show our city how nice and innovative it can be to study in Amsterdam. This project is supported by the Amsterdam University Fund (AUF). Help us make this day possible with your donation!
